How to Pick a Florist

Flowers are a very imprtant part of most wedding and are essential in decorating and setting the mood.  It is important to find a imaginative florist who has an appreciation for all flowers.  A good gloral designer will do her best to understand your needs and respect your budget.  An excellent floral shop is always in demand and therfore can

be booked out as far as a year in advance.  You should immediately begin to focus on your floral decisions, especially if your wedding date is close to Valentine's Day or Mothers Day.

It is an excellent idea to have pictures of your wedding attire and decorations available for your florist when you meet.  Inform her/him whether the ceremony will be formal or informal and whether it will take place inside or outside.  It will also be helpful if she is aware of the colors you have chosen, the styles you prefer, the size of your wedding and bridal party and the season in which you will be married.  It is also very important that you make your budget limits clear to the florist since there is typically a large range of pricing.

Traditionally the bride bouquet is composed of all white flowers.  This formal type of bouquet may include roses, calla lilies, orchids, tulips or a number of others.  It should include on type of flower or a mix of only or three different types.  Colorful bouquets are considered less formal but give personality to the bouquet.

The groom's boutonniere should be worn on his left lapel and contain some of the same blossoms that are used in the bride's bouquet.  The ushers and groomsmen will also wear boutonnieres; however theirs will be made of different flowers than the groom's.  The bride's attendant will also have flowers but they will be different from those in the bridal bouquet.  The mothers' corsages and fathers' boutonnieres will be coordinated in style and color within the same floral theme.

Some brides may make their floral choices based upon preference of style and color while others may use symbolism as a guide.  For instance, orchids symbolize love and beauty, tulips symbolize a perfect love, daises symbolize innocence and loyal love, lilacs symbolize innocence and truth and orange blossoms symbolize a first marriage.

If you are shopping within a restricted budget, carnations, chrysanthemums, daffadils, domestic orchids and baby's breath will be your best bet.  If you can spend a moderate amount of money, you may want to choose daisies, heather, roses, tulips ivy, lilacs, violets or irises.

If you are lucky enough to have a large or open budget, you may want to consider bird of paradise, gardenias, lilies, lily of the valley, imported orchids, amaryllis, orange blossom ro stephanotis.

You may also want to contact the members in your wedding party beforehand to find out if and what they may be allergic to.
